Applications are now open for the CHT Emerging Voices in AI and Society Fellowship 2026, a paid remote fellowship organized by the Center for Humane Technology (CHT). The fellowship is designed for researchers, writers, policy experts, technologists, and public thinkers who want to explore how artificial intelligence is shaping society and contribute meaningful research that influences public understanding and policy.

Application Deadline

  • Fellowship Duration : September 14, 2026 – March 18, 2027

  • Format : Fully Remote

  • Commitment : 15 hours per week (including at least 10 overlapping hours with Eastern Time)

Eligibility Requirements

The fellowship is intended for mid-career professionals with expertise in AI and society. Ideal applicants include:

  • Researchers or university faculty.

  • Journalists and technology writers.

  • Policy analysts and former government officials.

  • Civil society advocates.

  • Technology professionals with industry experience.

Applicants should also:

  • Demonstrate expertise in AI's societal impacts.

  • Have strong writing and public communication skills.

  • Show evidence of published articles, essays, reports, or academic research.

  • Be comfortable working across disciplines.

  • Be available to commit approximately 15 hours per week during the fellowship.

  • International applicants are welcome to apply.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit:

  • A 1–2 page research proposal for each selected focus area (maximum two).

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) or résumé (maximum two pages).

  • A two-minute video introducing yourself and explaining why you are a strong candidate.

  • A writing sample demonstrating research and analytical ability, such as a published article, research paper, working paper, or blog post.

Fellowship Expectations

During the six-month fellowship, participants are expected to:

  • Produce one flagship research report, essay, or public-impact publication.

  • Publish one to three opinion articles or essays.

  • Participate in at least one CHT podcast episode when appropriate.

  • Contribute to CHT's public communication initiatives.

  • Attend mandatory cohort meetings and bi-weekly mentorship sessions
